Wildlife photography for beginners

Sunday 9th February 2025

Sunday 13th April 2025

Meet our resident Wildlife Photographer at 10.00hrs at the RSPB St Aidans Cafe for some introductions and a hot drink. We’ll spend about an hour in the Café looking at the basics of photography before heading out around the reserve for the rest of the morning. We’ll return to the Cafe around midday for lunch then head out again to a nearby nature reserve in the afternoon to look at some more advanced photography techniques with some photography tasks thrown in. We’ll return back to the Cafe around 15.00hrs.

During the day we will cover the following subjects: -

  • Ethics of wildlife photography

  • Fieldcraft

  • Equipment

  • Camera Settings

  • Rules of composition

  • Bokeh effect

  • Use of light

  • Species identification & research

  • Image critique

You will need to provide your own camera, lens, and binoculars. As we will be mobile for most of the day, we will be shooting hand held and therefore tripods are not necessary.
