Red Kites were once one of the most persecuted Birds of Prey in the UK, but through various conservation projects they have made a bit of a come back. One of the many places that you can see them is at Harewood Estate, just north of Leeds. The Muddy Boots Cafe attached to the Village Hall is an excellent place to view them, and with several outdoor tables the Cafe has become popular with wildlife photographers. There is an added bonus here, that one of the nearby houses puts fresh meat out for the Kites at set times of the day and the aerial acrobatics are impressive.
There are also buzzards in the area, but the Red Kites are easily identifiable as they have a forked tail.
